Group Critical Writing is a gathering of words and deeds where creativity meets criticality. Group Critical Writing is “a space of appearance”, in which words have an effect. Group Critical Writing is a supporting structure that advocates for experimental, radical and critical writing about arts and culture in Scotland and beyond.

Group Critical Writing was inaugurated as Studio Jamming Group Critical Writing Residency at Cooper Gallery in the summer of 2014. By thinking through collaboration and collectivity, thirty-three writers from across Scotland gathered their distinctly singular voices into a speculative document of what it is to be contemporary within art and culture in Scotland today. This anthology of new texts, drawn from open submission and edited by Maria Fusco formed the foundation of Group Critical Writing and are presented here on this site.
